About Provo Convos

Conversations shouldn’t feel like rehearsed job interviews.

Abstract illustration of breaking conversation patterns

Provo Convos is a rebellion against rehearsed small talk.

I've come to a recent realisation that interviews, dates and other human interactions are becoming stiflingly predictable.

First dates start to feel like a health screening checklist. Interviews are filled with templated answers about “strengths and weaknesses”. Even dinner conversations run on autopilot.

We’ve memorised our life stories and perfected our pitches. We have sharpened our tongues to answer, but we often forget to connect with our hearts and minds.

I constantly felt like I was experiencing Déjà vu.

“So what do you do for a living?”

“What are your hobbies?”

“How big a family do you want?”

I've been guilty of rehearsing and regurgitating "model answers" to these types of questions.

I realised we sub-consciously craft the perfect response for each situation. However, connection rarely happens through perfection but it happens in the unexpected moments.

I realised we connect when we laugh together, or when we let our guards down in situations of unexpected vulnerability.

Vibrant spark of creativity between two people

It is my wish for Provo Convos to throw you into a world of weird and imaginative scenarios that would have never crossed your mind.

“If love were a competitive sport, what would be your signature move?”

“If your career were honest, what would its tagline be?”

By shifting the context, I hope to elicit more thoughtful and intimate answers. My goal is to catch you off guard and bypass the typical mundane responses, and as a result to help reveal values, expose a sense of humour and creativity, as well as to surface emotional depth as you go about interacting with others.
